The day after a show is a little bit like the day after a big party. Every ones moves a little slower, there is clean up to be done, and some still have glitter stuck in their hair. Yet when the bell rings on Monday, you still have to be ready to greet those tired-eyed cherubs. So how to you get life "back to normal"?
The first days after a show we celebrate our accomplishments by watching this show. We also have students do written show evaluations where they can make observations on dancing, lighting, costumes, and of course a self-reflection. I take care of all of this using Google Forms. All answers in 1 easy to access sheet!
After our viewing days, we ended the unit with a production quiz. Any guesses what I used here? You got it...Google Forms. With Flubaroo being my favorite grading add-on. This quiz marked the 1st time the other members of my dance faculty took the plunge into online grading and loved it. For large classes without enough devices, they used ZipGrade; a program with printable scantrons you grade from your phone.
When we finished the quiz, Dance 1 & 2 classes played a Ballet Kahoot for a pre-assessment of their ballet knowledge before starting a new unit.
The following day, we started our ballet history presentation using Prezi. Students followed along with notes using a Google Docs template I created and linked though Google Classroom. The next day it was time to return to dance technique and vocab journals. I chose to use the method I started in our last unit with a spreadsheet linked in Classroom. Although I love the features of Quizlet and StudyBlue that I have used the past, the ease of having everything in Classroom and only logging in on 1 app saves on both time and confusion.
In other class sightings, Jazz 4 was seen taking a pop-quiz on ballet terminology in Sheets/Classroom; Ballet began using the Mimio board to begin to recall ballet terminology including spelling and also used Coach My Video to do some early self analysis on basic ballet work that they will compare with later in the year; Dance and Media returned to the daily class presentation on Slides making it easy to view video and picture materials for their upcoming photography project called Insta-Graham to the World;" and Dance Educators used their collaborative folder to create student rubrics, access and create lesson plans and then spent some time practicing for a project they are doing with their Elementary students using iMovie.
