Techno Trouble

We all know that dealing with technology will have it's own set of troubles, but when you are asked to use it daily in as many ways as possible, it can throw you off your game when it's not working right. The iPad goblins were up to know good this week and things were acting up, but I am blessed to have such amazing ITS's that I didn't even go an entire day offline. But in the panic of the morning the trouble started, I was able to reflect a learn a lot myself about this pilot 1. No one should be so special that when their private source of top notch technology isn't working, that you might as well call it a day. I had just pulled out my iPads when I discovered they were on the fritz, and my 1st reaction was to pout and stomp my feet. It was a good reality check to remind myself, wow, I am super blessed and we will not shrivel up and die without them. #realitycheck 2. Tech takes a lot of work. I realized I had more time in the day, not coordinating iPads between

Test Takers, Map Makers, and PIE Bakers

What a busy week in NextGen dance land! In order to work out the kinks on a small scale, I have been rolling out the iPads a few smaller classes at a time. Dance 2 got its 1st intro to the iPads for 3 activities this week. After I filmed them performing their dance test, students completed their self-evaluation through an online Google form. The following day they took notes on the jazz history Prezi on the Padlet app. Later they took their jazz history and vocab quiz through Edmodo. I loved the engagement and focus they had for all 3 activities in ways they never had on paper versions of the same task!! Dance and Media students continued to follow our Google slide presentation and journal through Google Classroom. This week we investigated community, culture and the movement inherent in both. We used Wordsalad to generate a product full of the communities we are a part of. Then we used Popplet to mind map the ways movement happens in each of them.

A Piece of the PIE

What a great 3rd week! We are really getting into the swing of our dance and tech groove! We also got our equipment from the Arts & Digital Literacy Grant out of their boxes and charged for use. So excited to for future use of the digital cameras, speakers, stage lights, and a GOPRO!!!  Classes continued to use Google classroom for journals and Quizlet for vocabulary. Dance and Media students watched a super inspiring TED Talk and then explored creative ownership of photos while learning some of our 1st photography terms.  https://youtu.be/KPPxXeoIzRY As if we didn't have enough going on, I was blessed to receive a Partners in Education (PIE) Grant and we started the first phase of our Fit & Flexible Minds & Body project. We took pictures of partners in various positions and then used the app Coach My Video to analyze the angles and measurements. We screenshoted the markups and filed the pictures in our Google Drive. Then we recorded the data on in

Journals, Vocab and Action Shots, oh my!!

Upper level Academy Jazz and Ballet classes are helping me test out the transition from Edmodo to Google Classroom for our daily journals. So instead of grabbing spirals, or doing journals online at home, students grab the iPads and tap into their original thought expression with the pre-posted prompts. Then we are using the class feature of Quizlet for recording their daily vocabulary words into flash cards that will be shared with the class for later pre-test activities. Our new course Dance and Media Communications dove into the curriculum this week also using the iPads for journaling as well as exploring the camera when exploring identity through movement and digital imaging. A partner activity explored how to capture meaning of movement behind a lense and capabilities of the iPad camera. We then airdropped our favorites to guide our class discussion regarding what we discovered and saw. We ended the week with the class' favorite activity...taking action selfies to represent
